About
Azure Dawn is a game about the mental cost of embarking on the Hero’s Journey. Built as a commentary of “purpose” and “meaning”, the game has you join the Knight — a fervent, but naive protagonist — on his mission into the ruins of the Forsaken Lands. Together, you will navigate through the dream-like reality of long-lost Pravedna, doomed to fight the inner demons impeding you at every step.
But it doesn’t have to be this way. The Knight is chosen, his purpose is holy. Perhaps those monsters are merely an illusion, made to distract you? A test to prove your faith, no doubt…
No matter what you believe, however, consequences are indisputable. And they cannot be simply ignored.
Conflict is always a choice, but how far will you go to maintain your prejudices? What will you do, when faced with the monsters hidden within?
The choice is yours, sir Knight, but do not tally. The Goddess awaits and the time for awakening has come again…
Game Features
The Perception System
Perception shapes the world! Take control of the Knight’s subjective reality by picking what does and does not exist in his eyes.
You control what the character can see.
A Journey of Consequences
When the character has an experience, it shapes his attitude and prejudices going forward.
These dictate his Subjective Reality, changing how the world appears. To the reckless, dangers may seem tame; to the betrayed, allies could take the shape of horrors…
Join the Dance of Blades
Parry, deflect, expose and execute — dance to the rhythm of death where most foes can be felled with just a single well-placed lethal blow.
All this using just two specialized keys. No complicated combos, no move lists to memorize; allowing you to focus on the ebb and flow of each fight.
Mastery is found in the basics, after all.
This blend of theatrical choreography and real fencing is inspired by personal experience with martial arts such as Kenjutsu, Iaido, Jodo and Chinese fencing, alongside research in Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA).
Reality defined by Dream Logic
A cliff of daggers. One step falls atop cold stone. With an echo, the sound of loneliness propagates across the forest — a forest? — and lands in the place where sighs the earth.
But this… is outside. It cannot be reached.
The world you know is above, clad in billowing skies and oppressive downpour. A prison in the heavens, washed forever in the tears of fleeing gods. A beacon and a spire, lit by darkness alone. Repulsive and frightening…
Yet a single figure strides inward, toward the source of horror. A Knight, bearing a child. A Girl, bearing a sword. A Dove, seeking the eye of the storm. Foolishly determined…
For the only way out passes within.
A Grimdark tale of Hope
“Even if the soil is tainted with lies,
those skies, they bloom so everblue.
Though with roots thrust unto soil
Sight still flew, revealing beauty in my eyes.”
— Song of the Fool
The land awaits a hero who can free the Goddess. A chosen knight, a picture of courage to dive peerless into the heart of darkness. Like a rainbow in the night, a tale of colour found in paintings bleak…
Your tale. Because you are chosen… aren’t you?
“Once upon a time…
A wise, merciful Goddess came to these lands.
She mired us with her voice
And abandoned us soon after,
to rainfall eternal…”
“A great kingdom rose where her lands had once flourished.
It slept forgotten by God or Man
A lotus blooming from sodden betrayal.
Until the day
When Knighthood woke.
… and the Azure Dawn began again.”
